MID-SUMMER NOTES
Color, finishing touches, and a few things catching my eye.
I’ve been thinking a lot about color lately.
Not just wearing more of it on vacation, but finding ways to make it feel like me once I’m back home.
This blazer from L’AGENCE is a good example. Before this summer, I probably would have admired the color and kept scrolling. Now, it’s exactly the kind of piece that catches my eye because I’m starting to see color differently.
The golden tone reminds me of the yellow pants I’ve been reaching for lately, but in a silhouette that feels just as at home with denim now as it will with richer browns, olives, and chocolate tones this fall. That’s what I’m finding myself drawn to more and more—pieces that introduce color without feeling seasonal or limiting.
Sometimes you unpack more than what’s in your suitcase. You come home seeing your own closet a little differently.
Once I started looking at color differently, I realized I was paying more attention to the finishing touches, too.
A gold mesh Mary Jane is probably a shoe I would have overlooked not that long ago. Now I'm drawn to the texture as much as the color. It catches the light without overpowering an outfit, and somehow feels just as natural with denim as it would packed for a trip.
The leopard pouch is another favorite. I've always considered leopard a neutral, and paired with the warm gold of the blazer it adds another layer of interest without making the outfit feel busy.
The newest addition to my jewelry stack has been these oversized Baroque pearls from Lizzie Fortunato. I've always enjoyed layering necklaces, often with colorful beads, but these have become a favorite for a different reason. The bright white feels unexpectedly fresh against a white T-shirt and denim. It's a combination that lets the pearls make a statement while the casual pieces keep them from ever feeling too formal.

Colorful Sweaters & Drawstring Pants
If I had to point to two additions that have quietly changed the way I’ve been getting dressed this summer, it would be colorful sweaters and drawstring pants. Neither is particularly trend-driven, but together they've made my wardrobe feel lighter, more relaxed, and current.
Living on the coast means sweaters are part of my wardrobe year-round. Cool mornings and evenings are common all summer, so they’re always within reach. This year, though, I’ve found myself choosing them in vibrant greens, warm yellows, and bright pinks rather than my usual neutrals. They’re an easy way to introduce color without feeling overdone.
The other piece that’s become a summer staple is the drawstring pant. What makes it so versatile is the silhouette. In linen or cotton poplin, it’s perfect for everyday wear. In silk or another refined fabric, it becomes an effortless option for dinner or an evening out.
Together, these two pieces refresh the wardrobe I already own. They add a little more color, ease, and personality without changing the foundation of my style.
Previewing the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
As I was looking through what’s included in the sale, I realized I shop it very differently than I used to.
Now it’s mostly about stocking up on things I’d be buying anyway. Since many of those items tend to sell out early, I save them to a wishlist during the preview so I’m ready when my shopping window opens.
I’ve already saved a Flamingo Estate candle, one of my favorite Byredo scents in a set, the La Ligne sweater I own in several colors, and the Hoka and New Balance sneakers I routinely buy. I’m sure I’ll add several beauty products to the list. There are a handful of brands I use regularly, and some of them are bundled into sets, which are perfect for travel, gifts, or simply replenishing products I know I’ll use. And as I continue to add more color to my wardrobe, I'll keep an eye out for pieces that feel like a natural fit.
