JANUARY 2025. THAT'S A WRAP.
Everything I saved, screenshot, lingered on and liked this month. A quick trip to Sedona. And a big thank you to everyone who commented or sent me messages about More Of/Less Of and January Thoughts.
Thank you to everyone who commented, liked and shared my last post - More Of/Less Of. I loved all of the feedback. It was great to hear how the message resonated with you. I also enjoyed reading what you appreciate about A NOTE ON STYLE and would like to see more of going forward.
I opened comments on this post and January Thoughts to all subscribers so they are viewable to everyone. Others sent me messages directly. There’s lots of support for a variety of content going forward with the following themes repeated often:
I appreciate all of your comments!
A few thoughts on fashion week. I’m not interested in trends, but I like to see the beauty, creativity and craftsmanship presented on the runway. It’s an art form and the best of the best is all I want to share. I’m conservative in this realm and have no interest in eccentric, attention grabbing looks. In the name of beauty, the following…
Things I loved. From Lanvin - the short embellished cape over a sheer top and trousers or an evening dress and the spectacular layered ribbons highlighting the color, shape and movement of several column dresses. Both look and feel very old-school Lanvin, which lost its way over the years. Love the new direction from Peter Copping. From Chanel - the beautiful details, particularly with the attention paid to the backside of dresses. Styling tidbits to incorporate into real life clothing include the punctuation marks defined by a simple black belt (seen throughout the collection) and a casually tied black bow on buttoned up tops. The iconic spectator pump gets a modern update with an elongated toe box and practical block heel. I can only hope it is produced in leather in addition to the satin/velvet combo shown.
In the more practical world, Toteme continues to impress on all fronts. Not for everyone, but I especially love the oversized silhouettes and shearling coats paired with super slim knee high boots. Granted, it’s not a pairing under consideration for warm weathered Southern California, but I could see it translate successfully in different fabrications. The popular T-Lock bag newly offered in a contrasting mix of croc-embossed leather and nylon is absolutely on par with what I’d wear at home or away. It makes a very handsome travel companion, don’t you think? While the price of handbags continues to escalate, Toteme manages to keep it in check without sacrificing style or design.
More on my appreciation of beauty, Louvre Couture: Objects of Art, Objects of Fashion opened at the Louvre on January 24th. Of particular interest is the unique presentation of clothing within period settings illustrating the direct influence of historical decorative art on fashion.
"The pieces will not be displayed aimlessly throughout the Department of Decorative Arts, but rather will serve as an occasion to highlight existing parallels...in the fields of art history and fashion..."
One of my favorite classes in college was The History of Fashion studied through portraiture. This exhibition speaks to that interest and would be a must if I were visiting Paris before it closes on July 21, 2025.
The Dries Van Noten jacket I posted endlessly on last spring has made an appearance in navy. To me, it’s the perfect little jacket with a boxy shaped and cropped length sleeves. I wear it with everything from jeans to full skirts, open or buttoned up. It’s a smart looking little piece. This is one of the categories I spoke about previously on buying doubles. It’s that good.
I took a quick road trip with my husband to Sedona for a few nights. The beauty is astounding - even more so in person. I don’t know about all the vortex talk but there is something very grounding when you’re in the canyons surrounded by the massive red rocks. We took advantage of a single sunny day (although chilly) and hiked Jordan Trail. The next day we had snow.
For this visit, we stayed in a creekside cottage at L’Auberge de Sedona. On a prior trip, we stayed at Enchantment Resort which is where I would highly recommend. The location is amazing - a good twenty minutes out of town nestled in Boynton Canyon surrounded by massive red rocks. Unbelievable beauty. We come to Sedona for the hikes, nature and quiet. You need to be as from town as possible to experience those details.
We stopped for lunch at Enchantment Resort and within an hour the visibility disappeared with an incoming snow storm.
I wore Uniqlo HEAT-TECH leggings and t-shirts for the hikes. They’re well made, incredibly priced and keep me warm. Often sold out, they’re restocked throughout the year so continue to check the site if you need them for a later date. I’ll layer a sweater over the t-shirt then a lightweight puffer. A beanie is essential to keep the heat in. For hiking and outdoor activities, North Face and Vuori are my go-tos. I’m wearing an old, no longer available pair of Merrel hiking boots. The leather gives a true boot look (versus sneaker fabrication) which makes them versatile to wear from trail to restaurant. These are very similar and have great ratings.
Prior to the Sedona quick getaway, we spent a week on a catamaran touring the British Virgin Islands. Amazing! I’ll save the details for another post.
I think I found you through Paloma's blog as well! And I've stayed for the fashion perspective and good taste. I hope you talk about interiors in 2025 as well - I can see in the pictures you have lovely taste in that area too.
Love reading your posts. Always consistent and excellent taste. Thank you!
