A TRANSITIONAL TAUPE WARDROBE

Dressing for fall when summer refuses to leave.

Looking ahead at my September mood, I’ll be frustrated. The predictable hot weather won’t align with the way I want to dress. I’ll be done with summer and ready for fall. As I’ve said before, the best way to transition into the new season is being mindful of weight while investing heavily into a new palette. One that I’ll be working on is shades of taupe with dark brown.

Look for cotton pants to wear with sandals now, loafers later. Pair with sleeveless tops that feel comfortable on their own now, then layered under jackets or sweaters as the temperatures cool. A substantial brown sandal can be a key element in the transition by creating visual weight which reads more fall forward. Bid farewell to the straw bags and introduce something to complement this warm palette. I’m obsessed with the distressed Bottega Veneta Ciao Ciao bag and hope it becomes available in the smaller size. What's beautiful about this approach is how variations of the same hue make putting a look together effortless.
